FRANNY AND ZOOEY

I've only really ever seen the iconic rainbow striped cover of "Franny and Zooey" (it's the version I currently own, stolen from Claire, and sitting on my desk) so it was sort of a delightful find when I searched for the book online and found all these other designs. This book broke my heart, but in a very different way "The Year of Magical Thinking" did. Instead of loss of people or memories, F & Z is more about the breakdowns that occur when you suddenly feel like you no longer know what you believe in anymore -- and all you're able to do is take out your frustrations on other people, because isn't that always the way?

I've just started "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" -- a book I've always avoided because it sounds so serious and heavy and like I need super ninja focus to read. It's actually basically the opposite of what I thought it would be about; I thought I was going to be tricked into reading "The Alchemist" or "Sophie's World" or some other badly written quasi-philosophical novel which I do not appreciate. Someone else's world beliefs wrapped in ugly prose is no joy to me. But "Unbearable" is a love story! I think. There are lovers involved. Does that count?
