I was at Chevalier's Books on Larchmont one leisurely day, sipping on my Jamba when a book about muses caught my eye. I do not remember the title of this book now, but I do remember a chapter about the eely Yoko Ono. Now I don't know if you would really describe Yoko as eely, but I put "evasive" in the thesaurus and "eely" came up. I like it.
In this chapter about eely Ms. Ono, it talked about her career as an avant-garde artist and musician before meeting John Lennon. To exemplify this "avant-garde" appropriation - her 1966 film called "No. 4" showed closeups of human butts in motion as they walked on a treadmill. I became fascinated with her life pre-Lennon, and found out that she wrote a book called Grapefruit (my fav!): A Book of Instructions and Drawings.
Excerpts:
Baffling, imaginative, original, largely figurative, and brilliant, if you can stand this sort of thing.
Check out this YouTube clip where she reads from her book:
And here's the 1971 paperback edition, which is so much cooler:

With love and peace,
Claire
