I had a really amazing Greek or Meditterean salad the other day, and thought I could make it at home. It had cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, vinagrette and crumbly little cheese pieces--feta, I thought. So I bought some, and attempted to recreate it in my kitchen. It just wasn't the same, and I discovered I don't even like feta. Strange.
I mention this because I heard author George Saunders read bits of his latest non-fiction work, The Braindead Megaphone, sometime late last year, and it was so funny! Saunders was charming! He had an appropriately enthusiastic reading voice! He was so gracious, and let my friend Doker cut in front of the winding line to sign his book! I wanted to take him home! But what I took home instead was that essay collection, just now okay on its own in my bedroom, with my inside-my-head reading voice.

Still disappointed with my salad, made crunchy peanut-butter & fig jam sandwich instead. Yum.
