PREPRATIONS FOR THE EMPEROR'S CHILDREN

I would advise you to do the following before reading The Emperor's Children:
1. Have some idea of who Emerson is, what he believes in
2. Have read War and Peace
3. Have your dictionary out! Unless, of course, words like amanuensis or petards are
part of your vocabulary.

All I know about Emerson is that he once let Thoreau borrow a piece of land and subsequently published Walden... which I've been forced to read more times than I can count in my secondary education. Transcendentalist blah blah blah. I haven't read War and Peace, but have read Anna Karenina (marvelous). I had www.dictionary.com out while reading this novel. It's actually very, very good, and I'm almost done. I will do anything right now rather than go and write my research paper for my Indian tribal government class. I might even vacuum (again).

P.S. I notice Danielle Steel on the post below me. Can I just say we share a birthday? I love sharing a birthday with a trashy romance writer, although according to her Wikipedia entry, her novels are intense dramas.
