I need a few recommendations for funny books. I was looking at the bookshelf at 3 am the other night and wanted something funny, because it's so sad being up at 3 am, knowing you have to wake up in five hours. I decided reading "House of Mirth" would make me even sadder. I wanted something breezy, but I don't own very many happy books and I'm in great need. No, please do not recommend me David Sedaris. I will hurt you.
On a similar topic -- while I was wondering why all the books I love and own are full of epic tragedies (I believe my beloved Oppenheimer biography is actually called: "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer"), I remembered this Fiona Apple interview that I love. She's being delightfully pestered by Craig Ferguson on the Late, Late Show. She tries to explain when she writes and why, and is woefully inarticulate, as she is wont to be when she's not singing. She's adorable. Interview starts around 4:24.
So anyway, it's Friday night, and I'm supposed to be cranking out three to four pages for a fellowship application, and instead I'm on BBC online, watching really beautiful gay men trying to deal with the repercussions of super-glue-ing tiny hats on their heads.
Jesus, they're gorgeous, and charming, non? Like, how the whole time, both of them realize how ridiculous this is? And hat guy's partner has taken photos and sent them to his mom? Does self-awareness not get you out of every unfortunate ass-hole-y jam you find yourself in? Also, I love how the BBC cameraman makes sure that their head turns are perfectly synchronized in the entrance shots. This is the funny I need in my books. Someone capture this and give it to me in book form. Maybe a picture book?
xoxo,
t (although Claire tells me I'm a Tiger Daughter)
PS Superglue comes off with nail polish remover, I believe.
PPS Good thing he didn't use wood glue! Nothing gets that off. I know :)
