BEDRIDDEN

I'm at home sick with the flu. Not swine related, I think. But I had to miss work today even called in sick for tomorrow at the restaurant. I never miss work, so this is unusual for me. I'm loafing around feeling miserable.

Recently, I watched the movie adaption of "Ella Enchanted" and it was all right, I guess. I remember the book made me cry every time I read it because there involves some real sacrifice on Ella's part and ... I don't know. I thought I could feel her pain. Something like that. Anyway.

If you have the time for light summer reading, I'd check it out. Ella in the novel has so much soul. She's spunky and a great observer and I used to wish I would become either her or live in a mayonnaise-tomato filled world of Harriet the Spy.

And speaking of kiddie endeavors, one of my students gifted me with his lion pillow he made in art class. Here he is posing with it:

I also made a bracelet in our art class. (The clusters are little flowers!)

Earrings I legitimately bought at Red Pearl in Williamsburg. Clothing is meh and overpriced, but they have cute accessories and home decor. I bought a gift for my baby sister for graduating high school there as well:

I finally finished "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and um. Let me tell you what happens: characters you are not really invested in DIE. And then you feel like an d-bag because you're not sad about it. That's it. This is a book pre-occupied with explaining the evils of fascism and racism without really telling us why we should care. It's kind of like IF I WERE TO TYPE IN CAPITAL LETTERS WITHOUT ANY REASON.

So now I am reading "As I Lay Dying" and if the title (and cover illustration shows), people DIE in this novel. I just hope I care.

All right, I am going to fight my flu with a vengeance. My method of attack is eating cereal and then passing out on NyQuil. (I went to three Duane Reades and a Walgreen and everyone was out of Severe Nighttime Theraflu for Flu and Colds. ARGH!)
