SEA CHANGE

Finished "Midnight's Children" yesterday - finally!- a weight has been lifted! Not that I didn't thoroughly enjoy it, but it just seemed like I wasn't able to give it the attention it needed given the topical nature of the novel. Also, Rushdie has one of the most quirky and intense writing and thought processes I've ever come across. So. When I'm smarter, I'll re-tackle it, I'm sure. (Have faith, lovelies. It took me a few tries to understand Toni Morrison and now I can't imagine ever having been so dim. Ha!)

Anyway, to reward myself, I've started "On Beauty" by Zadie Smith. I read "White Teeth" (read about it here and here) several months back and really enjoyed Smith's humour so I thought it'd be a nice break. Plus, this novel is supposed to be a modern reworking of E.M. Forster's "Howards End" which I've already read (and did I write a paper on this?) so plus one for me. My brain needs some rest. You'd think talking with six year olds all day I'd need some stimulation, but no thanks.
