NICK IS A BIASED CHARACTER



I've been really wanting to read The Great Gatsby since helping my brother on his expository essay. This was his opening hook and thesis:

"For better or for worse, one’s self-perception rarely reflects the actuality of his or her public persona. This notion is played out in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, where the reader is first introduced to narrator Nick Callaway who claims to be a non-biased character. He describes his experiences in Long Island and tells the stories of the new people he meets. However, as the novel progresses, Nick unconsciously manifests the human nature of being judgmental. Even though Nick appeals to the reader as a moral and honest man, he still shows signs of bias in his actions and thoughts throughout the story."
