By first time novelist Carl Shuker - this one really stood out to me from the shelves.
The Method Actor is set in Tokyo, the main plot surrounding the disappearance of war historian Michael and his sister's search to find him. Lots of characters, lots of drama; some drugs, sex, family scandal - this is a postmodern portrayal of 20-somethings foreigners amidst turn of the millennium Tokyo.
This is Sophia Coppola meets Murakami meets Cormier meets Mitchell. But before you start reading this book, "be prepared for a challenge" according to a reviewer because of its complicated narrative style and length.
Shuker has since written a second novel called The Lazy Boys, set in New Zealand about the coming of age of an 18-year old boy. Read all about it on Shuker's blog.
