My cousin Pam, whom I'm staying with in Jersey at the moment, said something the other day that really stood out to me. She works for a pharmaceutical company developing dermatological medicines and treatments in the consumer product department, and she mentioned that the budget is tight for any new experiments lately. So all she does at work is have meetings, because there's no money to do any new lab work, but she's busier than ever. "I'm so busy, and we're doing nothing. Just meetings all week long." Meetings about what? About the next meeting? One of the many paradoxes of living in America. See Evidence B:
Ick!
And here I should mention travel writer Bill Bryson, who has a great knack for describing small town America in "The Lost Continent." One of not too many books on my bookshelf that I could recommend to guys. I always feel a little foolish when a guy friend asks what my favorite book is, looking for a recommendation or another, and my answer being, "Um, The Time Traveler's Wife..........." Which is, of course, a wonderful, wonderful book.
