MY MIND'S NOT QUITE SO BRIGHT

not everything is illuminated, jonathan safran foer

It's been quite a lazy summer for me. I don't start work until Monday and I've been lounging around and doing a lot of thinking and realizing (best realization so far: I don't suck at pool! In fact, I was halfway decent when I played yesterday night, and was even so generous to sink some solids when I was stripes). In between all this strenuous work, I've had time to squeeze in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," which I did not like very much, and thought was a time-suck, and now it blows because I'm disenchanted with reading. Ugh. I feel as if I have a very unstable relationship with reading. One minute I'm obsessed and the next I'm dissatisfied and such a nag. Whereas Claire writes letters of praise, I feel as if most of the letters I compose in my head are rather closer to hate-mail to those unwise with word-choice, subject matter, and/or style.

Currently I'm reading "Everything is Illuminated" and while it is quite good, as reviewers and critics promised, something is just not completely clicking for me. Maybe it's because its lead in was disappointing, maybe it's because first time author tried to be cheeky by including himself as a character in the novel, maybe it's because the novel takes places in three different time zones (so far).... it's just a busy novel, and I have to give a lot to get its beauty, which is fine for cold winters, but in nice, lazy summer? Eh, we'll see.

currently listening to:
The Changeling
The Doors
