The event was more uneventful than eventful this year. It was so hot that you sort of wanted to get out of there as soon as you stepped foot on UCLA's hilly campus. It wasn't as crowded, either, as I remembered. No panel discussions or author signings for me this time, just rubbed elbows with LA's bookish crowd - kids, college students, older couples, and cotton candy concession men. It felt nice to be out.
Notable booths: Chronicle Books and their Braises and Stews (Tori Ritchie); Kinokuniya Bookstores and their beautiful origami guides; Traveler's Bookcase, of course, which is always closed on Sundays (8375 Third St., LA) but not at the festival!; the everything-under-$5 tent; and the no-commitment Reading to Kids recruiters.
Negative: No McSweeney's booth to be found!
Bought: Not For Tourist Guide to NYC. I can hardly contain my excitement about moving there in the fall.
Tiff, you've been MIA. But I understand how finals/essays/hell week can be. Boo! Hang in there!
currently listening: American Boy by Estelle, feat. Kanye. LOVE IT.
